Perinton ¾ The Executive Committee of the Monroe County Independence Party announces that it has decided on the candidate it will back for New York State Governor at the party’s Nominating Convention in May. That person is George E. Pataki.
Don Porto, Monroe County Chairman, says that the Governor
has met with the Monroe County Committee several times and has demonstrated his
willingness to support many of our party’s positions. High on his list is Initiative and Referendum.
We prioritized this issue and have been working for passage of this
legislation since the party was founded. In
fact our party founders have said on many occasions “If we were forced to
choose only one of our issues to become the law, we would have to choose
Initiative and Referendum. For if
we had that one capability we could make everything else happen”.
Every other issue/reform advocated by the Independence Party would
benefit from the legislation proposed by the Governor with respect to Initiative
and Referendum.
