Gov Crowds Ballot Lines

ALBANY
ndependence Party operatives said last night that Gov. Pataki has the party's line cinched for November, giving the Republican three ballot spots.

Pataki has already locked up the Republican and Conservative lines.

The Independence Party was founded eight years ago by billionaire businessman Tom Golisano of Rochester, who lost to Pataki on the line in 1994 and 1998. Golisano, who said he is leaning toward running for governor again, criticized the party for backing Pataki.

Third party lines have also become an issue in the heated Democratic gubernatorial primary. State Controller Carl McCall urged rival Andrew Cuomo to forsake the support of the Liberal Party.
