FASO RECEIVES INDEPENDENCE PARTY NOMINATION FOR STATE COMPTROLLER
BROOKLYN -- State Assemblyman John Faso Saturday "enthusiastically"
accepted the nomination of the Independence Party to be its candidate
for State Comptroller.
Faso received 72.6 per cent of the votes at the Independence Party"s
state convention this afternoon.
Faso, who has long been considered one of the state legislature's
top fiscal experts told the members of the Independence Party's
state committee that he would be "tough, fair and independent" as
State Comptroller.
"The job of the state comptroller should be to serve as an
independent fiscal watchdog, free of partisanship and beholden to
no one but the taxpayers, and that's exactly the kind of independent
comptroller I'm going to be. This afternoon's endorsement will help
send that message to every corner of this state," Faso said.
"The Independence Party has made key reform measures like Initiative
and Referendum a centerpiece of its platform, and my longstanding
support for the issue no doubt contributed to the strong support
I received here today.
"I am also pleased that the Independence Party recognizes my 16
years of service in the Legislature, standing up for taxpayers and
fighting against wasteful spending. There are plenty of people who
will find ways of spending the taxpayers" money, but very few who
will find ways to save it. That's what I've been about in my eight
terms as Assemblyman"and as Assembly Minority Leader"and that's
what I'll be about as the next state comptroller.
"My message of fiscal reform and independence is receiving widespread
support from people all over the state and of every political persuasion.
With today's ringing nomination, I now expect to be the candidate
for state comptroller on the Republican, Independence and Conservative
Party lines.
"New Yorkers of all parties know that this state is at a critical
point in its history and that we don"t have a nickel to waste."
